Overnight stay in Tbilisi.Begin your journey today by visiting the sites of the old capital of Georgia Mtskheta, such as Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) and Jvari Monastery (6th century). Afterwards, enjoy a wine tour to Chateau Mukhrani founded in 1878 by the Prince of Mukhrani, heir of the royal family of Georgia. You will see Ivan Mukhranbatoni’s royal palace, gardens, and old cellars, stroll through vineyards, and visit the ultra-modern winery. You will have an opportunity to taste the finest wines of Georgia and delicious Georgian cuisine. After lunch, you will visit Lago’s Wine that is small boutique winery producing Qvevri wines from organic vineyards. When back to Tbilisi, you will enjoy natural wines at Vino Underground wine bar where winemakers will be pleased to introduce their wines and share own stories about winemaking. After dinner at a restaurant, enjoy your walk in the Old City.
Overnight stay in Tbilisi.Today, you will explore the centuries-long history of Kakheti wine culture. In the morning, visit Bodbe nunnery, where Saint Nino was buried and Sighnaghi, a beautiful town founded in the 18th century that overlooks amazing Alazani Valley and spectacular Great Caucasus Mountains. (A visit to Bodbe can be replaced by horse riding tour if preferred). After wine tasting and lunch at Pheasants Tears winery, you will continue your journey by visiting Tibaani to see a vineyard with 315 grape varieties and enjoy rare local wines. Afterwards, enjoy a visit to the Prince Aleksandre Chavchavadze Tsinandali Museum, its amazing garden, an old wine cellar with a unique collection of 16,500 bottles of different wines. Afterwards, you will have a lovely experience to quality Qvevri wines at a boutique winery Teleda. In the evening, we will journey to a castle-type hotel Chateau Schuchmann and enjoy a delicious dinner and spectacular views.
Overnight stay in Kisiskhevi.The scintillating morning view from Chateau Schuchmann and the freshness of the Georgian countryside will wake you up to a morning you have hardly experienced. After an early breakfast, we may take a short hike to the next village of Tsinandali to visit the cultural center and the house-museum of the poet and public figure Al Chavchavadze. From Tsinandali, we drive further north to the mountains of Great Caucasus. On the way, you’ll visit Gremi fortress (XVI c). Till XVI c. Gremi was the main city of Kakheti region. The picturesque location of the fortress with its tall bell tower and high wall always makes a deep impression on guests.
Driving further north-eastwards, we reach Kvareli where there are the wine tunnels dug under the mountains of Great Caucasus. The total length of the tunnels is 8.000 m. The 2 main tunnels are more than 800 m. The tunnels are used to keep the wine for this time. Through the rock of the hill, the elevator will bring the guests up to the restaurant built above the tunnels on the top of the hill from where one can find wonderful views of the river Alazani Valley. We will be having a mouth-watering lunch in the hill-top restaurant while enjoying the amazing view of the valley. In the late afternoon, we return back to the Chateau Schuchmann. Spend an idle day in Kisiskhevi and soak into the beauty of Georgian countryside. Take a stroll down the vast and expanding vineyards, taste some quality wines and enjoy your time talking to the locals, reading your favorite book or prattling with your partner. You may also take a ride down to the town of Telavi and also explore the countryside around and the nooks of the place will amaze you so much that you may end up contemplating that you belong from this place. Enjoy a beautiful dinner after a relaxing dinner accentuated by some finest wines of the Caucasus. Overnight stay in Kisiskhevi.After breakfast, we bid a warm farewell to the Kakheti region. On the way enjoy your visit to monasteries with the centuries-long history of winemaking such Ikalto Monastery (6th century), Alaverdi Monastery with wine cellar founded in the 11th century, and Nekresi Monastery Complex (4-6th centuries). Afterwards, a visit to Kindzmarauli Wine Cellar that has a large vineyard library with more than 400 grape varieties that grow in Georgia. After lunch, return to Tbilisi. (In autumn you can participate in harvest and wine production if interested). In the evening, enjoy your dinner in Schuchmann restaurant.
